I would like to confirm whether .Net Framework 4.0 (v4.0.30319) is supported on Windows XP Professional SP2? On many Microsoft download links, I found that .Net Framework 4.0 is only supported on Windows XP SP3 and above. But while I gave it a try on a fresh Windows XP SP2 VM it only asked for 2 things.
CamBam is now using the .NET framework version 4 as framework version 2 becomes end of life. .NET Framework version 4 is usually installed by default on most newer PCs. For older computers this can be downloaded from here: -gb/download/details.aspx?id=17718
For older systems such as Windows XP, the .NET framework can be downloaded using the following Microsoft site: .Net Framework 3.5 It is recommended to install .Net framework version 3.5 rather than 4.0 or later on older systems.
The .NET Framework family also includes two versions for mobile or embedded device use. A reduced version of the framework, the .NET Compact Framework, is available on Windows CE platforms, including Windows Mobile devices such as smartphones. Additionally, the .NET Micro Framework is targeted at severely resource-constrained devices.
.NET Framework 3.0, formerly called WinFX,[48] was released on 6 November 2006. It includes a new set of managed code APIs that are an integral part of Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008. It is also available for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 as a download. There are no major architectural changes included with this release; .NET Framework 3.0 uses the same CLR as .NET Framework 2.0.[49] Unlike the previous major .NET releases there was no .NET Compact Framework release made as a counterpart of this version. Version 3.0 of the .NET Framework shipped with Windows Vista. It also shipped with Windows Server 2008 as an optional component (disabled by default).
For the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 there is also a new variant of the .NET Framework, called the ".NET Framework Client Profile", which at 28 MB is significantly smaller than the full framework and only installs components that are the most relevant to desktop applications.[57] However, the Client Profile amounts to this size only if using the online installer on Windows XP SP2 when no other .NET Frameworks are installed or using Windows Update. When using the off-line installer or any other OS, the download size is still 250 MB.[58]
On 28 July 2009, a second release of the .NET Framework 4 beta was made available with experimental software transactional memory support.[66] This functionality is not available in the final version of the framework.
I want to install .NET framework 3.5 on a couple of machines that do not have internet access. If I install the "no internet access"-package it still wants to download something. How can I figure out what is missing? Are there other installation packages?
As well as the .NET Framework 3.5 Redistributable, you must also have the required version of Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2). This may be the reason that the installer is trying to download more.
It's quite likely that at least one of the messages should say what it's trying to install, which is very likely to be a missing pre-requisite of some kind (although you've got the full installer for .Net it probably doesn't include all the pre-reqs but assumes that you'll already have them, and then helpfully tries to download and install them if not).
have installed sage premium software, which will not work unless .NET Framework 2.0 is installed. Microsoft .NET 2.0 available for XP's & older OS's BUT NOT for Vista. Tried installing .NET 3.0 (for Vista) but it will not install - error - XP .NET framework 2.0 required. Tried to contact Microsoft but couldn't stay on the phone waiting for hours.
You're right. The reason for my problems was that I had some corrupt files in vista, including .NET framework, and no win32run.dll (?) which caused a major crash. After I re-installed from recovery and re-installed simply, I did a complete re-install by year (total 2 years only) and found that the program does work under XP and Vista BUT you cannot restore into Vista from XP backups. What I did was set up the companies and then copied the files & folders into vista. All of the above did the trick except for a couple of bugs in their system which they will correct for their 2009 versions.
The PortableApps.com Platform and App Store support apps that utilize the .Net Framework. Apps include details about which .Net version they require and the PortableApps.com Platform will automatically check for support before launching the app. It will even offer to assist the user with downloads, which link to this page. If you are unsure what version of Windows you are running and whether is 32-bit or 64-bit, you can select Help and then About in the PortableApps.com Platform and look in the lower left of the About window.
