If we set our mind to upgrade our Mac with latest features then we have to upgrade our pc with Leopard 10.5. The ISO file is available on the official website as well as on the apple store. We have to decide what type of installation we require because it comes with three types of installation: Upgrade, Archive and Install, Erase and install.
Archive and install take the middle ground method. This installer moves all your data in one folder and then create a clean installation of OS X 10.5 Leopard. This method allows the user to get all their existing data including the user account. Installation of Leopard OS in the Mac, you have to boot from the Leopard install DVD.
But with every big step forward in features and performance, the Mac OS leaves some older Macs behind. The number of Macs that had been supported by Tiger and left behind by Leoaprd was the biggest for any release of OS X to date: No G3 models were supported, and the installer would not run G4 Macs slower than 867 MHz, although a few workarounds were discovered to address that.

Like anything else with Craigslist, be on the lookout for scams, deals that seem too good to be true, and the like. Contact the seller, see how you get along and with any luck, you can have the install disc you need by the end of the day.
As shown on How to add base SDK for 10.5 in xCode 4, you have to open up the installer, extract your package, and then run the installer. Once the package is installed, it should be compatible with later versions of xcode.
Mac users who have older hardware laying around which are unable to run modern versions of Mac OS X may be relieved to discover that Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) and Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) are available to download directly from Apple. These versions of Mac OS X are over half a decade outdated and are now unsupported, making them appropriate for advanced users and those who require specific legacy software support within a virtual environment or on appropriately aged Mac hardware.
Once you get the dmg files you can either burn them to a DVD to make an installer disc, create a Snow Leopard bootable install drive from them, or run Snow Leopard within a virtual machine like VirtualBox or VMWare. The virtual machine approach continues to work with all modern versions of OS X, letting Snow Leopard run atop Mavericks and Yosemite.
If you do download and install Mac OS X Snow Leopard, you can continue to obtain combo updates all the way through Mac OS X 10.6.8 through Apple Support, and they should still be available through the Software Update mechanism on the older Mac OS X release as well.
For Mac users without a membership to the Apple Developer program, paying the $99 annual fee makes to access the downloads makes little sense. Instead, you can still opt to purchase a physical installer DVD of Mac OS X Snow Leopard from Apple for a cost of around $20. Whether or not an old unsupported release of Mac OS X like Snow Leopard is worth $20 when all newer versions like OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Mavericks, and OS X Yosemite are free and downloadable directly from the Mac App Store is debatable, but the old system software could be appropriate for certain environments where the newer releases of Mac OS X are unsupported on specific Macs, or where a virtual machine of the older OS is required.

I downloaded and installed the 10.5.8 Leopard Combo directly from the Apple support site a few days ago and reinstalled it on a Twin 1.8Ghz G5 Mac Tower. You just have to trawl through a lot of pages to find it, but there was no need for me to be a developer to get it. :)
Update: I've downloaded what looks like an installation app for Mac OS X Lion with a 4.6Gb InstallESD.dmg file but can't open it on Windows. I've tried PowerISO and MagicISO to no effect. Is it possible to create Mac OS installation media on Windows?

Often, the best option to fix these problems would be to reformat your computer and reinstall your OS, but since most of us don't plan on ever taking this drastic measure, we don't obtain a recovery disc or thumb drive.
You should now have a fresh copy of Mac OS X installed, and your computer is back to its factory settings. All without the need for a recovery disc or thumb drive. If you want to play it safe and create a bootable install drive for Mac OS X, you can do so using our guides here for Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, and El Capitan.
Yes, it should work just fine. The only reason Snow Leopard needs the DVD is because the Recovery is not built-in. Lion through El Capitan has the Recovery built-in, and it will reinstall OS X using whatever current version you are on. If not, you might need to download the firmware to use the Internet Recovery version, but this installs whatever was originally on the computer, so you'd have to update your OS again from the Mac App Store.
I got screwed over when I clicked on Reinstall OS X. Oh the joy of reading Service currently not available when it tries to download Mavericks online and all the while having only windows computer working.
I erased everything from my Macbook 4,1 without backing it up so when I tried to reinstall the Mac OSX Lion but I'm getting this message (Item is not available. Try again later) can anyone help me how to recover all the apps without recovery disc and without back up?
backed everything up and erased to send back for repair. Have received it back and clicked on 'reinstall Mac OSX Lion'. I'm now stuck on the pop up window which says "To download and restore Mac OS X, your computer's eliegiiilty will have to be verified with Apple. Loading Installation information... (scrolling)"

If any of the hardware in your system requires non-free firmware to beloaded with the device driver, you can use one of thetarballs of common firmware packages or download an unofficial imageincluding these non-free firmwares. To use Elgato Video Capture for Windows, you will need to download both the Driver, and the Software. After downloading, run the driver installation and follow the instructions. You can also update previous driver versions with this application.
Standalone Updates enable you to apply updates to Mac OS X in lieu of using Software Update. They are downloaded to your Mac and installed by mounting the associated disk image and launching the Installer package therein.
If you burn a Standalone Update to an optical disc or copy it to a USB flash drive, its disk image must be copied to your desktop or another location on your Mac OS X startup disk in order to be installed.
The easiest way to install MacPorts on a Mac is by downloading the pkg or dmg for Ventura, Monterey, Big Sur, Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, Lion, Snow Leopard, Leopard or Tiger and running the system's Installer by double-clicking on the pkg contained therein, following the on-screen instructions until completion.
If on the other hand you decide to install MacPorts from source, there are still a couple of things you will need to do after downloading the tarball before you can start installing ports, namely compiling and installing MacPorts itself: 2b1af7f3a8
