Topical treatment of psoriasis has three major steps, namely, photochemical treatment, systemic treatment, and adjuvant topical therapy. Photochemical treatment is now the therapy of choice for psoriatic lesions. The topical modalities include the topical treatment of plaques and the treatment of nail dystrophy. This treatment is commonly done in the form of topical corticosteroid, immunomodulating agent, tar, and anthralin.
The treatment of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) has been revolutionised by the introduction of new biological agents such as etanercept and golimumab. According to proposed criteria for classification and nomenclature of spondyloarthropathies, PsA is a distinct category within the group of spondyloarthropathies (SpAs). In PsO, high-dose methylprednisolone as an adjunct to systemic treatment was beneficial but the evidence for the use of other systemic or glucocorticosteroids is less clear. d2c66b5586
