Because some arcade boards can change games by just putting in new roms, it made sense to move the RBF files out of sight from the menu list, and browse the MRA files instead. These MRA files specify which RBF file to use, and which mame rom zip files to create on the fly into a rom to pass to the arcade core. They will create the old a.pacman.rom style rom on the fly from mame roms, either merged or non-merged.
General rule of thumb is that more recent is more accurate, while older is less accurate but faster (for older/weaker hardware). The added complication here is that MAME versions require specific romsets, so for a certain game you may have to use a specific version.
So am i right in thinking theres no way that you can create a playlist eg. ARCADE, with 100% of the Arcade roms included in that playlist, but that each rom has its own config about which version of Mame it uses?
The HomeBrew Mame emulator, short HBMame, is a port of the MAME emulator that supports homebrew games. Normal MAMEemulators do not support the romhacks and result in checksum errors when trying to run the romhacks. HBMame has build-in support for most of the Donkey Kong romhacks. For recently released romhacks it may take a little time before HBMame adds support for it. HBMame uses its own specific versions of the roms. These must be downloaded from a specificwebsite and are ready to be played. Using HBMame there is no need to perform the patching.
If you would like to add Snapshots for manually added ROMs they must be named exactly as the matching ROM with ".gif ", ' .jpg ", or " .png " extention. Place them in the 'snaps' folder on same drive as your ROMs. Example - dkong.zip (Donkey Kong's rom) and dkong.gif (Donkey Kong's snapshot)
Not sure where too put this but I'm trying to setup Turaco and do some romhacks. I keep getting the same errors and I don't know what is wrong. In this case I'm trying to get the sprites in Donkey Kong and I get these error messages. First one says: Error, dk.3n not found. Not suprising since there is no file by that name in the dkong.zip file. The second error I get says; Error loading driver : drivers\NINTENDO\DKONG.INI. Sorry. I'm guessing you'll have to manually edit the .ini file and make it go to the correct file but I have no idea which one of the files contains the sprites.
[system]Version_Major = 1Version_Minor = 1Info = This file was created from within Turaco.Author = TuracoROMPath = C:\Turaco\romsFont = 1H_Res = 320V_Res = 240Driver_Subdirs = onTroll_Magic = on[PCX_Rip]Path = .NumPerRow = 32
I managed to fix the error, it was looking for different romsets then was listed, I managed to find out what files to add and now it works. =) I only wish it had support for VS. Super Mario Bros, but it got support for tons of other games so I'm happy =)
From what I have seen on the net hacking roms for MAME is very outdated. Dosn't seem like many (If any) people are still doing it. But I'm a sucker for arcade games and I love highscores so it rocks that you can do romhacks for MAME, even though information is hard to find. 2b1af7f3a8
